By the time Zory and H'skal got V'sos to the Infirmary, he was already unconscious and she was steadily narrowing down the list of possible poisons in her mind. H'skal, on the other hand, was keeping up a steady stream of profanities. In mid-'Shards' exclamation, she snapped: "Back to the Weyrbowl, Bronzerider. There will be other injuries and I want them all in my Infirmary immediately!"
Technically, as a Bronzerider, he had to defer to her. H'skal wasn't terribly fond of having orders barked at him, but he obeyed nevertheless, leaving her alone with V'sos.
"And you!" She pointed at a drudge. "Get me a pot of hot water."
She carefully slipped the scalpel out of her sleeve and set it aside before opening up the medicine cabinet. Memories of the sketches in her scrolls and letters flashed through her mind, rattling down an increasingly unfamiliar list in search of the poison. And then - as suddenly as the crack of thunder tearing through the sky - she had it.
The brilliantly hued, three-toed amphibians that crawled through the leaves and rocks of the rainforest. That had to be it! They were abundant in the southern continent, easily accessible, and hugely toxic. It made far more sense than importing something from the north or trying to dry something on the blade. (Additionally, if Zoryana had to guess, she wouldn't bet Marks on Kimahri's ability to plan that far ahead. He seemed very... singleminded in his impulsiveness.)
Quickly, she yanked down a salve intended to neutralize the poison at the site of infection and also grabbed a powder made from the bark of a plant that was well-reputed for its ability to counteract a fair number of poisons. With both treatments in hand, she used a wedge of leather to gently pry V'sos' mouth open so that she could dump a thimble of powder onto his tongue. With that done, she wet a cloth in the hot water and began cleaning his wound. When most of the blood had been cleared away from the cut, she dipped into the salve and smeared it generously over the area and into the cut itself.
