Valinor
Name: Valinor
Nickname(s): Val
Age: 30 Turns
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Bisexual
Rank: Greenhandler
Craft: Journeyman Baker
Pack: Thread Fighting Pack
Faceclaim: Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Appearance:
Boyish. Goofy-looking. Gangly. Cute. Tall. Stretched.
Valinor has a broad forehead, and an blunt chin, making his face a pointed oval. When he smiles, he gets two adorable dimples, one in each cheek. He knows that this is very charming, and frequently utilizes this quality to get his way and/or to get out of trouble. When he is worried, concerned or surprised, his forehead wrinkles in consternation. Valinor has a baby face that never seems to age. Indeed, it hasn't changed much since he was a little boy, except for the five o'clock shadow that appears in the form of stubble at his chin now and then. Adding to this appearance of youthfulness are ears that are perhaps a touch too large for his head.
Valinor has doe brown eyes that are slightly almond-shaped. They gleam with mischief, sparkle with glee, fill with tears and blink in confusion. He has very expressive eyes, with long, dark lashes framing them spectacularly. At first glance, they are monochromatic in their klah brown hue, but at second glance, they have touches of amber in them. Above, sit dark, thick brows that he can move independently of one another. He is often seen waggling one brow suggestively, or raising one high above the other in an expression of doubt. Valinor has a thick crop of coal-black hair that he keeps short, but not short enough for the piercing cold tundra winds not to tousle it a bit. He can often be seen rubbing his hands over his head, or flattening his hair with both hands if he is nervous, anxious or upset.
Valinor is a tall, stretched 6'2, and does not look strong. He looks a bit like a teenaged boy in his frame. He has that pinched, not finished growing look that he had hoped to grow out of, and he is quite self-conscious about it. His chest is actually concave if he takes his shirt off, which he doesn't for this very reason. He also has a lot less hair on his body than is common for a man, with no chest hair, and leg and arm hair that is fine instead of thick. He has olive-colored skin no matter how little sunlight he gets, though in the absence of light, he can appear jaundiced. Narrow-waisted with long arms and legs, the word that may come to mind when you first view Valinor is gangly, and perhaps a bit awkward.
Personality:
Vain. Melodramatic. Emotional. Compassionate. Kind. Romantic. Hopeful.
Valinor is a bit vain, and it is apt that he Impressed a Green, for he tends to preen like one. He likes to make sure every hair is perfectly in place, and this same fastidiousness tends to cross over into his personal spaces. He is very tidy with his belongings. All of his clothing is perfectly organized, and his shoes perfectly lined up. He always straightens his sleeping furs before rising to meet the challenges of the day (or night).
Valinor tends to be a bit melodramatic. This crosses over into his story-telling, making him a fabulous tale-spinner. At his worst, however, he tends to overreact, acting out of pure emotion before ever pausing to think. You can always count on him to have an appropriate reaction for every tidbit of gossip brought his way, whether it be a dramatic sigh or gasp, or an enthused exclamation over a shared triumph. Everything is very intense to the man, and he feels emotions very deeply. He hugely guided by his passions and emotions, and not so much guided by reason or logic. This does not mean he is a bimbo, or that he is unintelligent--rather, he just thinks with his heart more than his head most of the time.
That being said, Valinor is also hugely compassionate and kind, keenly feeling for others. He almost tends towards empathetic, experiencing what others are experiencing, so much so that if he sees someone injured nearby, he feels that pain that they do, and blanches white, trembling. He can be very selfless, putting the needs of others ahead of himself. He is a nurturer, and can be quite paternal towards younger handlers, with well-meaning bits of advice flowing forth freely. Valinor is warm, and loving. He is a huge romantic, and loves a good love story. It is his greatest wish one day to be involved in a great romance. He can fool around, but can't help but hope that every relationship that comes his way is the one that will stick. Once he finds true love, he will be loyal until the bitter end. He is bisexual, but tends to favor males, though occasionally a female will turn his head. Mostly, he just has a keen appreciation for beauty in both genders, and will be attracted to it when he sees it. Beauty in appearance...and in personality both.
Valinor is an optimist, and tries his hardest to always see the best in people and situations. He has a habit of making jokes when he is uncomfortable, and when he is supremely uncomfortable, he will freeze up and laugh uncontrollably. He once happened upon someone in his weyr who had been waiting for him stark naked, and upon seeing them, in his surprise, he stood there and laughed, until that person, being quite affronted, left. It is not something he can control, and it is a matter of acute embarrassment that will bring about that reaction from him.
Strengths:
+Kind & selfless
+Compassionate
+Romantic
+Empathetic
+Neat
+Optimistic
Weaknesses:
-Melodramatic
-Overreacts/can be over-emotional
-Freezes up and laughs uncontrollably when embarrassed or uncomfortable
-Vain
History:
Valinor was born to a Baker and his wife in Fort Hold. He was one of three boys born. The first two were built like their father--big and burly, while little Valinor, the youngest, was born with his mother's frame, long and lean. His parents were thrown together in marriage when they were very young, because their parents were friends, and it made sense for their youngsters to marry each other. There was never a lot of love between them, and so young Valinor grew up seeing what lack of love in a marriage looks like, and secretly vowed to himself that one day, he would be with the person he loved, and no one else. No marriages of convenience for him!
His brothers, like two burly bowling balls, wrestled and teased constantly, which Valinor did not like. He was rather more frail of constitution than they were, and preferred that his clothing and hair not get mussed. Even when he helped out in baking as a child, he was scrupulously careful not to sully his clothing by wearing an apron, and being very precise with his movements in the kitchen. It did not take his parents long to realize that he was different. He didn't quite fit in to the mostly masculine family. Rather, he identified more with their emotional, sweet mother, and had a lot of her personality in him. Also, young Valinor began to realize that rather than longing after the Hold girls, he mostly was attracted to the boys. This made for an awkward teenage phase.
Even so, he trained under his father, a MasterBaker, and attained the rank of Journeyman Baker under him. He was quite adept at cooking, and when he attained his rank, he went to cook for the Weyr at the age of sixteen Turns. His parents supposed that the Weyr would be a better, more accepting place for his lifestyle, as the Hold boys didn't look so kindly upon the newly-matured young man and his (to them) awry attractions.
It was a great surprise for him when one day, not even a few months into his new job in his new home, when he was out and about, scrounging for ingredients on one rare lovely spring day, that a wher egg was thrust into his hand (quite by mistake!). He had happened upon a Hatching, and was quickly drawn into the process of cutting himself to expose the blood so that a hatchling may Impress him. It had not been his plan, but he had simply been in the right place at the right time. To his surprise, when the egg hatched, a tiny leaf-like Green wher emerged, his Valisk.
And so he became a wherling and left his baking, learning the nocturnal ways of the wherhandler, and about all of the different roles he could play as Bonded to his Valisk. It was quickly determined that because of her petite size and assumed quickness, Valisk would make a good Threadfighting wher. And so the two were trained as such, and Valinor threw himself into Weyr culture, thankful that he had finally found his niche.
Not finding his true love at Fort Weyr, however, when an opportunity to move to Xian Weyr presented itself, Valinor and Valisk transferred at hopes of seeking out that special person.

Valisk
Name: Valisk
Age: 14 Turns
Color: Green
Gender: Female
Final Size: H: 7 feet, L: 11 feet. Wingspan: 11 feet.
Appearance:
Valisk is at the larger size range for a Green wher. She, like all whers, is not an attractive beast, with her awkward bulk and large, photosensitive eyes. Perhaps the only attractive or redeeming quality in the homely beast is that she really is a lovely color. She is the green that is like the pale underside of a leaf. A deep emerald splotches her face, much like freckles on a human. Yellow-green striations can be found on her belly, and around her throat and tail.
Valisk's limbs are stubby and awkward, but her snout is a little large for her face. If she were a human, she'd have a small face with a large, hooked nose. But instead, she is a wher, an unsightly apparition indeed.
Though she may be an unsightly, ghastly sight to some, to Valinor, she is lovely, and is the apple of his eye. He loves her so much that he thinks her every bit as noble and worthy of respect as her larger, more elegant cousins.
Personality:
Protective. Proddy. Waspish. Careful. Observant. Quirky. Condemning.
