Quiroth is a doting Queen and protects her eggs with a fierceness that would rival a jungle cat. However, once she feels that the Candidates have earned the privilege of viewing and touching her Clutch, she tends to wait and watch them silently as they pick their way around the Sands and her babies. Only her lifemate Zira, her Weyrmate K'lian and Quiroth's own Krauth have seen the eggs in her recent Clutch. Luckily, Bit and Bridle have seen them as well and they will share images from the Hatching Sands with their friends.
For those who haven't gotten a chance to corner one of the blue flitts, below are the egg descriptions for this Clutch. Perhaps you Candidates will have a chance to view them sooner rather than later and will be drawn to a specific one...
Egg Descriptions:
1. “Bambi Egg” This egg is so large that it is sure to house a Silver or a Bronze, or possibly a colossal Black or Brown. Its size is the only thing about it that draws attention to it, however. The egg is a light shade of taupe, and it stands slightly crooked in the sands. It has light tan dapples on its surface, much like a fawn from Earth. When approached, it can be seen that the egg is vibrating slightly, as if the occupant inside is shivering with anticipation. If you were to touch the egg, you would feel its warmth, but also that it is surprisingly rough for an egg, much like a five o’clock shadow on the face of a man or sandpaper.
2. “Constellation Egg” This egg is a deep crimson in color, and sports constellations of tiny yellow dots that swirl around its smooth surface. It is truly a fascinating egg to behold, and usually draws much attention because of that. You get the sense that the occupant inside would have much the same personality—a vibrant one that attracts attention, and doesn’t mind it. For all of its brightness, it is not very large in size, but only medium, housing perhaps a Brown or small Black. When you step close to this egg, you can see that it jerks now and then, as if the dragonet inside wants to be free of its stunning shell.
3. “Tiny Sliver Egg” An egg that stands rather apart from its clutch mates is silver in color, and very small. It perhaps houses a Green or a Red for its tiny size. If a Purple is inside, then it is pathetically small. The silver color undulates across the egg in waves, and the darkest shade that is there is a deep, almost charcoal in color. The lightest is a pearly gray that is almost pink. This egg is very still, as if the hatchling who resides inside is very patiently awaiting its Hatching. When you touch the egg, you feel that it is shockingly hot, almost to the point where you would need to draw your hand back, lest it be burned.
4. “Dreamy Egg” This egg is a pale purple, like the first stirrings of dawn in the inky black sky. It is quite feminine in appearance; for sure you would think that is houses a female dragonet. There are light wisps of pink across its surface, and to look at it evokes a very dreamy feeling. The dragonet inside is likely middle-sized, but there is certainly not a Bronze or Silver in it. The surface of the egg is slick, and almost wet.
5. “Big Baby Blue Egg” A large egg stands in the center of the clutch, as if longing to be the center of attention. This egg likely holds a Silver or Bronze, because it is gigantic, almost as big as the Gold egg. The oval is blue/green in color, evoking thoughts of the ocean. It is interesting to look at, but perhaps not the first egg one would focus on. This egg probably contains a dragonet who longs for attention, but doesn’t get it for some reason, and has a bit of an inferiority complex.
6. “Rainforest Egg” This egg is the color of a rainforest caught in a stormy day, with different shades of green forming shadowy patterns across its surface. It is a lovely oval, and fairly small, more than likely containing a Blue or Purple. When you approach it, you can see that it moves ever so slightly now and then, as if the occupant is shifting slightly in his or her sleep. If you touch this egg, it feels almost slimy, like it is coated in algae.
7. “Amber Teardrop Egg” This egg is distinctly teardrop shaped, and a yellowish amber in hue. It is medium to large in size, but that fact is overshadowed by its brightness, and also the fact that it is close to translucent. If you lean close enough, you can almost see the developing dragonet inside. The shell is remarkably hard, like a diamond, and very leathery to the touch. It is also quite hot, but more in a dry heat sort of way. The amber egg does not move, and sits rather lazily tilted to one side.
8. “Lizard Egg” Iridescent greens and yellows undulate across the surface of this egg in a distinct and scale-like pattern. As the light plays across this egg, it almost appears to be breathing, with each individual scale picked out in sharp relief. Medium in size but distinct and eye-catching this egg most likely contains a black or brown and it twitches when touched since its inhabitant knows it is meant to Impress to a very specific Candidate.
9. “Glacier Egg” This egg is dainty and diminutive. Small and perfectly oval, this pretty egg is a pristine white cap at the top and slowly darkens from a sky blue to the forbidden deep azures of the ocean deep. If you stare at it, you can almost see waves of color crash into each other as they shift on the egg’s shell. One can assume that a dainty green or red darling is hidden in its depths. This egg feels surprisingly frigid and smooth to the touch, at odds with the heat rising from the Sands.
10. “Sunrise Egg” This egg is also small in stature but not in appearance. Stunning yellows and oranges envelop the top half of the shell while peaceful blues and purples swirl across the bottom piece resting in the sand. As it gently rocks back and forth, the upper rays of sunshine splay out across the rest of the shell in a captivating array of color. The dynamic coloring hints at a dynamic dragonet growing inside the gently rocking egg.
11. “Shadow Egg” This medium sized egg is a common ovoid egg shape and sits patiently on the Sands. What makes this egg stand out from the others is how uniformly black it is in color. There is not a spot on its surface that is not a matte black hue. It appears to be a shadow in the middle of the Sands but it is a shadow that stands on its own and not behind another thing. Perhaps the inhabitant of this egg will stand out from its brothers and sisters in its individuality or perhaps it will be a uniform little dragonet that is embarrassed by being a singular individual?
12. “Queen Egg” This egg is massive, golden and glowing. It is the pride of the Clutch mother for she knows it holds her rapidly growing, gold daughter. It is solid gold in color, and appears to be polished to a high shine. This egg sits apart from the others on its own crest of heated Sand. The shell reflects light and you can see your own face in it. Stoic and solid, this egg does not twitch or quiver with uncertainty, rather it remains frozen, waiting patiently for its time to hatch and Impress the Junior Werywoman of Xian.
