Physical description: Ala’n is short of stature and slight. He has red curly hair accompanied by a smattering of freckles upon his face. His eyes are a mischievous violet.
Personality description: Ala’n is easy going with a good sense of humor. He is very serious about his work, however, and studies Thread patterns endlessly. He is a romantic, wishing every flight-meeting would become a romance of the heart, but knows on a practical level that it does not. He is a bit of a peacock and will often re-work any clothing he gets from the weyr stores or buys at a Gather.
History: Ala’n is the seventh son of his holder family and therefore considered quite low in the pecking order, especially since his parents’ hold is in a well-settled area so he could not be expected to expand upon their holdings. He became talented at slipping away from his regular duties and struck up quite a friendship with the beast of the hold. His interest in beasts was noted and he might have been sent away to be apprenticed but a trip away from the hold changed his life. His father took him to Fort Weyr for a Hatching at which the beloved second son of the hold was expected to Impress. To the consternation of both father and brother, Rayeth called Ala’n out of the stands to be her soulmate. Under the angry eyes of his brother, who has not Impressed to this day, Ala’n flourished at Fort. He caught the eye of his wingleader as a potential leader due to his interest in learning everything about riding and good teamwork. His brother’s angry eyes grew wearing, so with Rayeth’s blessing the pair applied to be a part of the new weyr.

Pets: Ala’n’s weyr is constantly filled with injured animals which he nurses back to health and sets free. A few of his rescued animals remain with him: Shadow—a brown flit, Fluff—a female feline and Pluck—a canine

Dragon's Physical Description: Rayeth is a female. She is on the large side, a pale shade of purple.
Dragon's Personality Description: Rayeth loves to fly. Not just during mating flights, but any time she can. She loves soaring in updrafts and dropping fast in downdrafts. If Ala’n is too busy to go with her, she will go out alone. For her, Threadfall is like a big chessmatch. She enjoys calculating the “moves” of Thread and avoiding it. She is proud of the fact that the Weyrlingmaster often called upon Ala’n and her to demonstrate their Threadflying strategies. She matches her rider in easy-goingness and sense of humor. She loves a good joke. Rayeth is very protective of Ala’n, fierce in standing up for him in front of his family. Generally, Rayeth is decisive, the only issue she cannot decide upon is whether or not she wants to bear children. It is therefore good that Ala’n has gotten very good in using a flamethrower.
