Name: Jorah
Gender: Male
Age: 20 Turns
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Physical description: Short, stocky, and solid, Jorah looks like he could carry a mid-size herdbeast without excessive effort. He keeps his dark hair closely cropped, often shaving it off entirely to avoid the fuss. His hands are calloused and strong, weathered from growing up in an agriculture-based hold. Turns under the sun have further warmed his already brown skin, which subtly contrasts his dark grey eyes. Typically, his style of clothing is simple and the slightest bit outdated - good working tunics and sturdy boots.
Personality description: Jorah believes that with the right application of knowledge, will, and patience, anything is possible. He goes through life with a Plan, executing each step with meticulous care until his goals are in reach. Sometimes seeming inflexible, he’s genuinely loyal and hopeful. When he really cares about someone, he carves chunks of time out of his weeks to spend specifically with them - the same goes for his hobbies, leisure time, and work, of course. With this determination, he can accomplish very difficult tasks, but is easily frustrated when something interrupts his plan or disrupts a step entirely.
When he’s happy, he greets everyone with a smile and is all to happy to chat (as long as they’re not distracting him from continuing the task at hand.) However, when circumstances or people throw him off-course, he can sulk on his own for hours on end… at least until he comes up with a new plan.
History: Jorah called a small Wheyrhold home for most of his life. The folk there primarily focused on crops, herds, and wheyrs; all of them worked together in a small, symbiotic community that emphasized equal shares in everything from work to food. Starting as young as twelve turns, Jorah loved helping their builder plan new expansions to the hold. Being able to contribute in such a tangible way taught him early on how easy it was to make a difference. For most of his youth, it seemed like this life would be all he knew - and he was just fine with that.
Then, just after he turned 20 turns of age, a Searchrider visited during their yearly gather. After spending the whole day there with no promising candidates, it looked like he would be leaving empty-handed. No one in the hold was terribly disappointed by that; dragonriding was well-respected enough, but they all shared a common thread of quiet mistrust for anyone who preferred Dragons to Wheyrs. Jorah personally felt that all living creatures were on equal footing in some way and got into an active debate with the rider, who tolerated the watchbeasts, but openly admitted that he thought they were the stunted half-cousins of Dragonkind. As the argument went on, Jorah grew more upset with the rider, while the rider looked more and more amused. Finally, when their disagreement was nearly loud enough to be heard throughout the hold, Jorah rose from the table and left his half-finished meal there, too angry to finish it. He spent the night out in the fields, tending to their herdbeasts while he waited for the rider to leave. To his annoyance, the rider instead approached him in the morning and informed him that he’d be standing as a Candidate for the first clutch at Xian Weyr - with parental approval and all.
Dragon color preference: No strong preference, really!
Pets: None yet, but I’d love for him to pick one up.
