When Alea showed up at the infirmary, to her surprise she was directed to the still room. She had expected to be assigned to something completely innocuous like rolling bandages. Her healing knowledge was just enough to deal with simple household injuries. For anything more serious, her father sent out for the area's itinerant journeyman healer. She knew nothing about brewing remedies.
She found npc candidate Rori already hard at work.
"What are we doing?" she asked
"Organizing things HealerHall sent in to startup the infirmary," Rori gestured to three hardside carrisaks sitting on the floor, "I have already put up the 'A's and am starting on the B's," she gestured to the high shelf, "why don't you start on the C's?"
Alea frowned, that did not sound right, "Wait a moment," she said to Rori, "I am sorry but alphabetically does not make any sense to me. You need to put medicines that are used often and in emergencies close at hand. For example, do not put 'aconite' way up here. That is a heart medicine and when a healer needs it, they need it right away. It is it better off in the center of the shelving right here," she glanced over to see how her advice was being received.
Rori was not exactly receptive to her critique, "Look, I had no idea! They just sent me in here and I am trying my best!"
"I understand," Alea instinctively wrapped her arm around Rori's shoulders, "I was very intimidated when they sent me in here, really. I just happen to know a little about medicines that's all."
Her words soothed the other girl's nerves and she nodded, "Ohhh...okay. I was just afraid you were a journeyman healer before you were Searched and you came in here to shame me."
"Not at all," Alea replied, "I am just as nervous as you are. Look, let's set up a coding system, I will mark the herbal mixtures and you put them on the shelves. If I do not know what something is, we'll ask the healer outside. We need to make this as useful to the healers as possible. They will be very impressed, I promise."
The girls went to work, waiting for other candidates to join them.
