Maullie found it incredibly ironic that they arrived in the middle of a rainstorm, as that is what their wing as known as: The Rainstorm Weyrling Wing. She peered through goggles at the scene below. Though wet, the jungle below was verdant and lush. She felt a thrill of excitement go through her body.
It is very nice, her Silver agreed. She circled once, and never one to be excessive, Laurith began her slow incline. This Weyr in the jungle would now become their home. It was a different set-up than the Southern beach Weyr, but Maullie believed that new starts were a good thing. She gave the signal to her fellows that it was okay to land before Laurith touched down into the damp Weyrbowl. As Maullie slid down her Silver life mate's glistening hide, she was surprised to discover that the Weyrbowl appeared to be made of moss.
It felt soft and springy beneath her boots. She pulled off her goggles and shook her head to clear the excess rain from her heart-shaped visage. Her brown eyes scanned her surroundings, and found that no one was outside in this weather. Not that she blamed them. Maullie was not fond of rain, herself, though Laurith didn't seem to mind it.
Maullie turned and saw that her Silver was positively frolicking in the rain, which made her giggle. Every now and then, the majestic young thing did something to remind the Weyrling that she was truly still a dragonet. She had reached her full length, but she still was very young, much like a one-year-old canine puppy. They look fully grown, but act still like they are young.
Do you enjoy the rain, my love? She asked, bemused.
I do! said the dragonet happily as she splashed about. But as her fellows began to land around her, she stopped her puddle hopping. Number one, with the great host of them on the ground, there was not room for it any longer. And number two, Laurith was always very conscious as her new role as Wingsecond in the Rainstorm Weyrling Wing, and was determined to act dignified in front of the other dragonets. Maullie neglected to mention to her that they were her brothers and sisters, and had known her since she was an awkward hatchling, so she probably didn't need to put up a front. She had every bit of faith that her beloved life mate would figure it out on her own.
"I suppose we should head inside and see if we can find someone who can give us directions." Maullie commented to the nearest Weyrling. She then set off towards the Weyr entrance, where it could be seen that a Purplerider still stood.
"Ah, the Weyrlings from Southern, I presume?" She inquired after examining the assembly of young dragons. After Maullie's affirmative nod, Oakley said, "Welcome to Xian Weyr. We have been expecting you. I am Purplerider Oakley, and I'm on the welcoming committee today. Head straight down this main hall, and take a left, then a right to reach the Kitchens. There, you'll find your weyr assignments, and I'm guessing you all know that you're in a wing together--the Rainstorm Weyrling Wing. Heh." The last was a short laugh as the Purplerider surveyed their rainy surroundings.
"Thank you Purplerider, and well met," Maullie said, inclining her head to the woman before motioning her fellow Weyrlings forward. She shivered lightly as the cool air of the caves hit her wet skin. She couldn't wait to get her weyr assignment, so she could take a nice, warm bath!
I get to have my own weyr ledge, Laurith said delightedly.
Yes you do, my dear, came the bemused reply.
Maullie walked down the hall, leading the group of other Weyrlings. It felt easy and right for her to be in the front of the pack.
