Name: Merch
Gender: Female
Age: Twenty three
Sexuality: Homosexual [Should she ever pull herself out of work]
Physical description: Light brown almost dirty blonde hair falls just past her shoulder blades. She never seems to know what to do with her hair so depending on the weather it is either tied up and out of the way or let loose. Soft, searching brown eyes peer out from the woman's face. Her eyes tend to have questions or her eternal curiously burning behind them and often brighten when she stumbles on subjects that interest her. She is quick to smile and it's been said that she has an attractively bright smile that can seem infectious.
Merch is quite average. She stands at 5'4" and isn't the most athletic of people. That's not to say she's chubby, far from it. She just doesn't spend as much time worry about how she looks. She's natural more on the lean side but does still posses plenty of curves to show a girly form. While not the most well endowed, she's quite pleased with her 'handful' of breasts; anything more and they'd just be in the way.
Merch has a scar just down the right side of her lips from an accident she still has yet to actually recall. It runs from the very top of her lip all the way down to the edge of her chin. Her hands have also seem to be a slightly different color than the rest of her skin due to her craft work. Clothing wise, Merch tends to wear only practical outfits. She's not flashy at all and tends to lean more towards the earthy or neutral tones.
Personality description: Merch is a bit socially awkward and usually ends up saying the wrong things at the wrong time and going into 'geeky' babbling whenever she feels uncomfortable. Wards are hard to come by for her as she spend most of her younger years focused completely on her craft. When around someone she is attracted to, she tends to say things she didn't mean to say out loud; usually her own thoughts.
She is very protective of everyone and will go out of her way to do anything and everything she can to help. Sometimes she ends up doing the wrong thing for all the right reasons because of this need to protect. Merch is also prone to jealousy now and then when it comes to someone she loves. That doesn't quite mean it'll show; she's quite good at comparting her emotions.
Merch is smart. Like, ridiculously smart and very good at what she does. It's not surprising to find out that there might be many who would come to her when they need help with something or just need advice. She is earnest and eager to learn new things. Learning anything new is one of her favorite things to do and she'll be the first to dive into new things; even if they might be out of her comfort zone.
Her loyalty to the weyr is unquestionable; she knows for a fact that the Riders and their dragons are worthy of this loyalty. It's this loyalty that causes her to take her work very seriously and for that she is often considered uptight. However, she can be relaxed and friendly when in the presence of those she cares for.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
+ Continuously strives to prove herself, patient, focused, isn't afraid to stand up for others
- Hates to seem weak, lacks 'normal' social manners, won't defend herself
Likes and Dislikes:
+ Star gazing, nights, learning new things, Nali, practicing her craft
- Bullies, getting into arguments, getting distracted, bubbly pies, Whers
Points of Interest: Has a surprisingly deep, raspy voice for a woman.
History: There was nothing exciting about Merch's parents. They were drudges who worked/lived at the Tannercrafthall and were not surprised at their daughter's fascination with the craft. She began to show an interest in them several turns before she was the appropriate age for apprenticeship. So as soon as she was able, she jumped at the chance to be a apprentice and worked hard at everything she was told to do.
She excelled at It was in her fifteenth turn that she was approached by a rider, claiming he was on Search and that she could be a candidate. She refused then, claiming that her passion was with her chosen craft and she had no ideas about dropping her studies just for a slim chance that she would be chosen by a dragon.
It wasn't much longer after the rider that her father began to notice certain things about his daughter that she wasn't even aware of. Like how she seemed to be more excited when a pretty girl talked to her. Or how she tended to withdraw from boys when they claimed to like her or attempted to give her tokens. Nope, she wasn't interested in boys like that at all. And that irritated her father for some reason. It continued on like that for another turn before her father finally said something to her. Which then resulted in an argument. Merch couldn't see what the problem was, but she didn't see what he was talking about. She just saw it as being friendly. [Minus that crush she might've had on one of her fellow student's sister who came to visit now and then.] However, she'll always remember that night due to the fact that she had actually cried in front of someone for the first time. Nope, she was not happy about that.
It was her eighteenth turn that both her father and herself actually made up. This was done by the man saving up to buy her a fire lizard egg. She was so excited about it, she forgave him practically instantly. After at least two sevendays of waiting, it finally happened. The egg hatched and out popped a beautiful green! Which Merch immediately stuffed full. After the flit had fallen asleep, she promptly named her Nali.
The day she reached her twenty-third turn, she was also due to walk the tables. Merch had decided to wait a few turns before she actually did. However, that was interrupted as yet again, a rider on Search came to claim one of the students. He walked around, from the journeyman table to the apprentice table and before she knew it, her eyes were looking up at the rider in surprise. Surely she wasn't going to be Searched again? But this time, she didn't refuse. In fact, she agreed! This was partially because her father was glowering at the rider and the fact that she wanted to get out of the crafthall and at least give this Impression a chance. After all, if she was Searched twice, didn't that mean something?
She didn't stay for very long at the Weyr, the opening of the newest one had them gathering candidates to send to Xian and Merch ended up being one of them. Not that she minded, she might even wind up being more helpful down there. A new Weyr would need crafters like her, right? Well, what she could do outside of chores and lessons at least.
Dragon color preference: She has none. After all, it's the dragon who chooses right?
